The role of the Notary Public:
A Notary Public is an official appointed by the secretary of state (a notary is commissioned to perform their duties, not "licensed") and serves as an impartial witness. The notary will screen for the signer's true identity to notarize their documents.
Examples of documents that commonly require a Notary:
Powers of Attorney
Estate and Will documents
Copy Attestation
Adoptions
USPS Form PS 1583
Minor child travel consent form
Certify the Contents of a Safe Deposit Box
A Florida notary accepts the following forms of identification:
State-issued photo ID (driver's license, ID card)
Passport (US or foreign)
Military ID (if it contains a photo and physical description or signature)
USCIS ID
Why not the bank or the UPS Store?
Don't leave the office to have a document notarized, call me! Don't drag the kids with you to go to the bank to get a notarization, call me!
FYI, some of the few things a Florida notary will just not do:
-notarize a blank or incomplete document
- choose the type of certificate needed for your document
- use any date other than the actual date of notarization
- notarize or certify a copy of a vital record
- notarize a document for a second time without following all of the requirements to verify identity
- notarize the signature of a person who does not speak a common language with the notary
-advice on how to complete or prepare a document
- advice about immigration documents
- notarize a document seeing only the signature page
